Release lungs tension. Let the breath rise

Per the article I published, “Diaphragm Release: Strengthen and Free Your Breath.”

I invite you to bring your attention to the lungs, especially the top of the lungs. The top of the lungs is like the tip of an iceberg—often overlooked and easily tight. When this area is restricted, the breath cannot fully reach it. By stretching this space, the tension releases, the area softens, and the breath begins to rise.

Breathing is essential in yoga practice. At the beginning of my class, I guide my students to ground themselves in gravity and place a sandbag on the diaphragm to create a gentle contracting stretch. As the diaphragm gains more space to expand, we move into poses that open the entire lungs, making sure to stretch the top of the lungs as well. 🧘‍♀️

When I teach yoga, I follow my Yoga SOP (Yoga Standard Operating Procedure), prioritizing what the body needs most. I guide my students step by step, practicing alongside them. Without fully inhaling and filling the lungs with air to generate energy, even the most skillful poses lose their effectiveness. Only when the breath flows fully, and the body is energized, can we experience the deepest benefits of yoga.

Breath is the foundation of our practice. The more we allow the full energy of the breath to move through the body, the more vitality, openness, and balance we cultivate. Yoga becomes more than movement—it becomes a way to awaken and harmonize the entire body and mind.
